Welton
Independant Sire Welton
Ambassador Dam Welton High Spirits This talented
15,2 mare now rising twelve was bred in the purple from proven eventing lines.
She made a superb start to her competition career with
her owner Hon Brigitt Cambell. Brigitt is well known as a serious competitor
within the Affiliated Riding Club network and in dressage. Independant was
schooled through all the disciples ready to event until a tragic field
accident severing a tendon. Independant made a remarkable recovery
in that with the dedicated care of Brigitt the tendon fused to the bone and
although this has put paid to her ridden career at high level she has become a
brood mare in the Pembridge breeding programme.
Brigitt loves competing and bringing young horses on.
In view of her injury it was therefore not a difficult decision to turn Independants'
life round as a brood mare, in view of her breeding and the talent she had shown
as a young horse under saddle. She had proved tough and sound in competition prior
to her accident and carried some of the best of the Welton breeding. Independant
by name and by nature the mare decided that she wasn't ready to settle to
being a dam and did not
hold in the early part of the season. We then persuaded Brigitt to turn Independant
out with our then senior CB Tynedale St Julian The resultant foal
was Pembridge Jack the Nipper. (1992) As Brigitt enjoyed showing, when
commitments permitted, occasionally as he was growing up Jack made appearances
in hand and was successful. A big upstanding part bred he caught the judges eye
and came second in the 2y/o class at the Cleveland Bay Show at Stoneleigh.
He came under saddle and proved an all round horse. In riding club he dressaged
with Brigitt, who at the same time was riding Pembridge Waldlord,
Dressage to Music and Horse Trialing, as well as qualifying Waldlord
for the Riding Club Showjumping Team for the National Finals. Jack now 16.3 with his huge frame was not Brigitts idea of a days fun out hunting
and John Coleman had many a good day on him with the South Hereford! He was also
successful as a Ridden Hunter in a few outings, including 5th in the Novice
Hunter at Monmouth in 1997 and third in Local Hunter at
Monmouth in '97 and '98 Jack was also 2nd in the Ridden
Hunter at the Cleveland Bay show at Malvern in 1998
With his scopy jump he was a good prospect as a show jumper eventer.and as riders
were available he proved us right. On a few outings he has collected £87 BSJA
and came fourth in his only event so far, at Stockland Lovell Intro 2000.
By now we had bred from Independant again and
she now has a three y/o by Pembridge Waldlord. Brigitt now has Welcome
to bring on and Jack has been sold to a competition rider to further his
show jumping and eventing career.

2000. In her few outings welcome has shown that she has a future in the
small ridden hunter classes. Her dam is 15.2 and despite the size of the Sire
(17.3) Welcome has followed her mother. She is an ideal size for Brigitt who
will retain her as her own competition horse.
Pembridge Welcome has proved to be an outstnding
ccompetition horse in all disciplines. Now with 19 BE points she is poised to
come out at Intermediate early next season. With Christine Hardng in the saddle.
Pembridge Welcome
Independants'
next foal Pembridge Swingtime has been sold. Swingtime, Dam
Welton Independant, Sire Stunner Rascal has been shown
lightly by her purchaser Mrs M Price. Swingtime came third in the Hunter
Yearling at Cheltenham 2000 and second in the Hunter Yearling at
Monmouth 2000. She also came 7th in the Yearling Competition Horse Class at
the Hunter Supreme Championships at Malvern 2000.
Swingtime has now returned to her breeder and will be eventing 2006
Swingtime is a loose athletic mover and has
inherited all the attributes of her Sire and Dam. She is being stored to event
and will carry on with her showing career until she comes under saddle to do the
Young Event Horse Classes.Swingtime has been returned to her dame's owner to
event alongside Welcome next time. Welton Independant's next two foals a
colt and a filly are by Pembridge Minstrel Pembridge Minstrel so we have much to look forward to
in the future. Jack will be out there
with his new owner. Swingtime will be around in the young stock classes
and we shall see what the younsters from the matings with Pembridge Minstrel produces.
Despite the sad loss of Independant herself as a competition mare, all
her ability is there in her progeny. However good the stallion there is still a
very large part of the equation that is down to the mare and Independant
has produced outstanding foals that have a future in the competition world.
Welton Independant's 2001 foal by the International
Event Stallion Pembridge Minstrel. This colt is from the first crop of
Minstrel's foals. He is 3/4TB 1/4CB He too is being prepared to start his
eventing career
